Slovenia's ski superstar clinches first Crystal Globe

Slovenian superstar Domen Prevc has officially clinched his first Crystal Globe as the overall winner of the Ski Jumping World Cup with seven events still left in the season.

In true "Domenator" fashion, there was plenty of drama, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.

Prevc appeared to dominate the 6 March event in Lahti, only to be disqualified over a technicality: his skis were just a hair too long. Even without earning extra points, the 26-year-old, however, amassed a 721-point lead ahead of his closest pursuer, Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, who earned sixth place, not enough to keep the hope of catching up alive.

With this win, Prevc completes the ultimate ski jumping "grand slam" of holding all five major titles in a single season: he is the world champion in both ski jumping and ski flying, the Four Hills Tournament victor, an Olympic gold medallist, and now, the overall World Cup winner.

The last athlete to pull off this feat was the legendary Finn Matti Nykänen in the 1980s.

Even the disqualification could not dampen his spirits.

"Ha-ha, yes, I was about 100 grams too light for my skis," Prevc joked on social media. "But I still broke the Lahti curse. Congrats to the guys today!"

The Slovenian is not done yet. He will get another shot at victory in tomorrow's individual event before teaming up for Sunday's men's super team showdown.

And with 13 wins already this season, he is gunning for his brother Peter's single-season record of 15 victories set in 2015/16.

The achievement comes just a day after Prevc's younger sister, Nika, notched her 16th win of the season and locked up her third straight Crystal Globe.

This means three siblings have achieved overall World Cup wins, a first in the sport.
