Bulgarian biathlete voted biggest surprise of 2026 Winter Olympics

Bulgarian biathlete Laura Hristova was voted the biggest surprise of the Olympic Games in Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics by the International Biathlon Union.

The 22-year-old delivered a series of strong performances on Italian soil — finishing 7th in the pursuit, 11th in the sprint, and 14th in the mass start. The highlight of her campaign was the bronze medal in the women’s 15 km individual event, CE Report quotes BTA.

The winner of the vote was determined by fans on the official Facebook page of Biathlonworld. More than 20,000 people voted for the Bulgarian athlete.

Second place went to Czech biathlete Tereza Vobornikova with around 4,700 votes, while third place was taken by Finland’s men’s relay team, led by Olli Hiidensalo, with 525 votes.
