Kosovo's Drita held to draw by Omonia in Pristina thriller
Drita of Gjilan and Omonia Nicosia played a fierce battle at the “Fadil Vokrri” Stadium in Pristina.
Both teams fought for their first victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Drita had drawn their first match, while the team from Cyprus had lost theirs, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Coach Zekiria Ramadani’s side started well, scoring in the 12th minute through Art Manaj after an assist from Besnik Krasniqi.
In the last minute of the first half, the visitors equalized through defender Giannis Masouras.
In the second half, Drita pushed for the winning goal, but the Gjilan players failed to capitalize on their chances, while the visitors also posed danger at times.
After this match, Drita of Gjilan has two points from two games in the Conference League.
Their third match will be against the Irish side Shelbourne, at “Tallaght Stadium” in Dublin, on November 6, starting at 21:00.
The Conference League consists of 36 teams, each playing six matches against different opponents — three at home and three away. The top eight teams advance directly to the Round of 16.
Teams ranked from 9th to 24th enter a playoff round, where higher-ranked clubs face lower-ranked ones over two legs, while teams finishing 25th to 36th are eliminated.
After the league and playoff stages, the tournament proceeds to the knockout rounds, all played over two legs except for the final, which is a single match.
