Switzerland’s national team coach, Murat Yakin, has responded to Albian Hajdari’s decision to leave the Swiss national setup and represent Kosovo instead, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Yakin stated that Hajdari’s decision is to be respected and that the team cannot influence his personal choice.

“We accept his decision; we cannot influence it,” said Yakin, adding that communication with the player was clear and transparent.

Yakin also addressed the case of Cameron Puertas, a player who wants to represent Switzerland but has not yet received Swiss citizenship. His naturalization process is ongoing, and Swiss authorities are expected to respond in October.

“Applications have been submitted,” confirmed Adrian Arnold, indicating that Puertas could soon obtain his passport.

Yakin emphasized that the Swiss Football Federation will not change its approach to fast-track players for short-term sporting gains.

“We don’t bring in players just to have them play for us. We rely on merit. A few games played are not enough. For us, qualification matters. The sporting path is the most important thing,” the coach concluded.
