Italian tennis star retires from Roland-Garros
"I don't know how long the pain I'm feeling right now—which is quite severe—will keep me out."
"I hope as little as possible."
Matteo Berrettini struggled to hold back tears after retiring from the French Open (Roland-Garros) due to yet another injury, CE Report quotes ANSA.
"I hope I stopped in time, and I hope it's nothing serious. I also hope I won't be sidelined for too long because I was feeling the rhythm, I was having good sensations on the court. Hopefully, we'll see each other at Wimbledon," the Italian tennis player said emotionally after withdrawing from the tournament.
"I try to go home with a smile. It's difficult, but that's the mindset I want to have," he continued after his match against Matteo Arnaldi.
"I've received so many wonderful messages. So many people care about me and write to me, even when things aren't going well."
"There are so many people here with me right now, including my brother. I wanted to finish the match for them too. Maybe lose, but at least be able to go out afterward, have a beer with them, and say, 'I tried.'"
"These have been two wonderful weeks. Now it's time to pack the bags, undergo medical examinations, and move forward," Berrettini concluded.
