Prishtina advances preparations for Mediterranean Games 2030

The Coordinating Commission of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), chaired by Executive Committee member Julian Pace Bonello, conducted an official visit to Prishtina from July 27 to 29, as part of preparations for hosting the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030,” CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

During the two-day stay in Kosovo, the ICMG delegation, accompanied by the committee’s Secretary-General Iakovos Filippousis, held meetings with the highest leaders of sports and local institutions. They met with the President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Ismet Krasniqi, Secretary-General Besim Aliti, and Vice President Milaim Kelmendi, as well as representatives of the Kosovo Government, including Acting Finance Minister Hekuran Murati and Deputy Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports, Daulina Osmani. A meeting was also held with the Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama.

Discussions focused on current challenges and the establishment of the Organizing Committee for the Games “OCMG Prishtina 2030,” which will consist of representatives from the Kosovo Olympic Committee, the Government, and the Municipality of Prishtina. The committee will be led by the KOC president, Ismet Krasniqi.

The Government of Kosovo reiterated its commitment to successfully organizing this major event and guaranteed financial support for the projects outlined in the bid dossier.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, assured institutional support for all projects related to the city to ensure the capital is ready to host over 15,000 guests during the Games.

At the end of the visit, it was announced that the ICMG Coordinating Commission will present a report on progress and recommendations from this visit at the ICMG Executive Committee meeting, scheduled for November 28, 2025, in Portimao, Portugal.

One day later, on November 29, during the Extraordinary General Assembly of the ICMG, the “Prishtina 2030” Organizing Committee will present the main plan for the Games and the progress of preparations to the wider Mediterranean sports community.
