Mexico City to Host F1 Races Until 2028
The contract for the extension of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Mexico City until 2028 has been signed, CE Report quotes ANSA.
“We are very pleased to announce that the Mexico City Grand Prix will continue to be part of our calendar until 2028,” said Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
“Formula 1 is energy, passion, and emotion, and each year the unique atmosphere created by our fans in Mexico City is one of the most incredible and engaging experiences in our championship,” he added.
The Mexican capital is “home to Formula 1,” said Mayor Clara Brugada, emphasizing that the Grand Prix will generate 21 billion pesos—about 1.1 billion dollars—in 2025.
“The Grand Prix not only attracts motorsport enthusiasts, but also boosts the city’s local economy, strengthens tourism infrastructure, and generates pride,” she concluded.
Mexico City sits more than 2,200 meters above sea level, and the thin air affects turbochargers, cooling systems, and brakes, while also reducing aerodynamic drag.
Formula 1 returned to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in 2015 after a 23-year absence, much to the delight of fans in the Latin American nation.
This year’s Mexico City Grand Prix will take place from October 24 to 26.
