Albanian PM blames foreign interference for Tirana protest violence
Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama said that physical violence during protests in central Tirana reflects what he described as a “political-media boulevard” environment influenced by criminal precedents and foreign interference.
In a post on social media, Rama said the escalation to physical violence is “the only outcome” produced by what he called a “black crust of angry political-media actors,” CE Report quotes ATA.
He added that “patience is still required before reflection takes place.”
The statement followed a protest outside parliament that escalated into clashes between demonstrators and police, including the temporary blocking of parliamentary exits and restrictions on lawmakers and ministers leaving the building after the plenary session.
According to official data, 15 police officers and four protesters were injured and received medical treatment following the incident.
