Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met Cyprus House of Representatives President Annita Demetriou at the Maximos Mansion, congratulating her on her re-election and wishing her success in her new term.

During the meeting, Mitsotakis praised Cyprus for its handling of the recent Presidency of the Council of the European Union, saying the country's work had received broad recognition at the latest European Council despite the difficulties faced by smaller member states, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

He also noted that Cyprus had set a high benchmark for Greece ahead of its own forthcoming EU Council Presidency and stressed that Athens and Nicosia must remain "fully coordinated" on the Cyprus issue.

Demetriou thanked Greece for its longstanding support of Cyprus, describing Athens as a steadfast ally.

She said that, both in her meeting with the Foreign Minister and in talks with political parties today, she had expressed “ our great pride in how Greece has been progressing in recent years.

Demetriou also underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and closer cooperation between the two countries' parliamentary committees, particularly on issues including defence, security and European affairs.

"Greece was, is and will remain our strongest fraternal ally, one we greatly need," she said.
