Montenegro police detain man wanted by Bosnia through Interpol
Officers of NCB Interpol Podgorica and the Bar Security Department (Montenegro) carried out a coordinated operation on Thursday, locating and arresting a man wanted under an international arrest warrant issued by NCB Interpol Sarajevo.
Acting on targeted search activities and through the collection and exchange of operational intelligence with international partner agencies, police officers located and arrested D.V. (34), a dual citizen of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, CE Report informs via the Montenegrin government website.
NCB Interpol Sarajevo issued an international arrest warrant for D.V. on 22 April 2021, based on an order from the Basic Court in Banja Luka, for the purpose of conducting criminal proceedings on suspicion of aggravated theft committed over an extended period. Under the laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the offence carries a prison sentence of up to eight years.
D.V. had been on the run for more than five years. Thanks to intensive international operational cooperation, intelligence sharing and coordinated efforts by officers from NCB Interpol Podgorica and the Bar Security Department, he was located in Čanj, in the municipality of Bar, and arrested within less than 24 hours.
Extradition proceedings will now follow with the aim of surrendering him to Bosnia and Herzegovina. In accordance with the law, the competent authorities of Montenegro will decide on the extradition as part of proceedings conducted by the Ministry of Justice.
