Kosovo PM congratulates Peter Magyar after Hungary election victory
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, congratulated Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar on his victory in the elections in Hungary, describing it as support for the values of the European Union.
“Congratulations to Peter Magyar on his election victory in Hungary. Kosovo welcomes the support of the Hungarian people for European Union values, and we look forward to working together,” Kurti wrote.
According to preliminary results, Magyar’s Tisza Party secured a strong two-thirds parliamentary majority, winning 138 out of 199 seats in the Hungarian parliament, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Meanwhile, current Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his party Fidesz won only 55 seats, suffering a major defeat after many years in power.
The only other party to enter parliament is Mi Hazánk, which won six seats.
In percentage terms, Magyar received 53.6% of the vote, compared to Orbán’s 37.7%, while the far-right secured 5.9%.
The vote counting process is nearing completion, with over 97% of votes counted, confirming a major political shift in Hungary.
