Romania reaffirms strong support for Bosnia’s EU integration
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Oana Țoiu, on the sidelines of a conference marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Executive Secretariat of the Central European Initiative (CEI) in Trieste.
At the beginning of the meeting, it was confirmed that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania maintain friendly relations with no open issues, CE Report informs via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina's official website.
This year marks three decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations, further confirming the continuity of cooperation and mutual trust.
The discussion focused on strengthening economic cooperation and developing joint projects in the fields of science, culture, technology, sports, and education, through the conclusion of cooperation protocols and programs that will serve as a framework for more intensive collaboration and exchange of experience.
Minister Konaković informed his counterpart about the internal political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the country’s foreign policy goals, emphasizing that the European path remains a strategic priority. He thanked Romania for its consistent and strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration, highlighting the importance of Romania’s political engagement in strengthening reform processes in the country. In this context, he particularly underlined Romania’s contribution and commitment to the stability and security of Bosnia and Herzegovina through its long-standing and significant engagement in the EUFOR Althea mission, including taking over command of the mission in 2025.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the importance of stronger economic connectivity among Western Balkan countries and the wider region, emphasizing that such cooperation contributes to accelerated progress toward the European Union. They also discussed cooperation within Euro-Atlantic initiatives, with a particular focus on joint contributions to the security and stability of the European region.
Minister Țoiu reaffirmed that Romania will continue to provide strong and unconditional support to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the countries of the Western Balkans on their path toward European Union membership, emphasizing the importance of continuing reform processes and European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
