German Defence Ministry: Patriot orders strengthen European security - EXCLUSIVE

Germany is continuing to support Ukraine's defense needs by contributing to the financing of PURL packages that provide critical military equipment, particularly in areas where European industry is currently unable to meet demand or deliver supplies quickly enough.

This was stated by Kristin Haase, a spokesperson of the German Ministry of Defence, in an exclusive interview with CE Report.

According to Haase, the financing mechanism allows Ukraine to obtain military equipment that either cannot yet be produced by European manufacturers or can be supplied more rapidly by the United States than by European partners or Canada.

She noted that while Europe is steadily expanding its defense-industrial production capacity, certain urgent requirements still necessitate sourcing equipment from outside the continent to ensure timely deliveries.

Haase highlighted orders for PAC-3 guided missiles used in the PATRIOT air defense system as a key example of this approach. She explained that Ukraine's missile defense capabilities in the crucial medium-range and medium-altitude sector rely heavily on the PATRIOT system.

The German Defence Ministry spokesperson emphasized that procurement for Ukraine also benefits European allies operating PATRIOT systems. By consolidating demand from Ukraine and European user nations, such orders help support the expansion of production capacities and strengthen the long-term availability of critical air defense equipment.

Germany has repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining military support for Ukraine while simultaneously increasing European defense production capabilities to meet growing security challenges across the continent.
