Trump administration most pro-Kosovo since independence, says President Osmani
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has stated that the administration of Donald Trump has been the most pro-Kosovo since the country declared independence, emphasizing that no concessions have been requested from Kosovo.
During an interview on Syri TV, Osmani said that cooperation with the United States has helped open new opportunities for Kosovo on the international stage, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
She stressed that together with allies, doors have been opened that were previously closed, mentioning participation in the NATO Summit in Washington and in the Peace Board as steps that strengthened Kosovo’s international subjectivity.
According to Osmani, Kosovo has made no concessions in its relations with the United States or the European Union.
“I have not made any concessions for Kosovo either with the EU or with the U.S.,” she said.
The president also revealed that she discussed with American officials the possibility of Kosovo joining NATO.
“We spoke with Marco Rubio about how Kosovo could join NATO with zero-cent lobbying and without any concessions, because none have been requested from us,” Osmani said.
She also mentioned that the program of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) had been renegotiated, and that the continuation of a project worth more than $200 million was secured after discussions she held in Washington, D.C..
Osmani stressed that closeness with the United States should be seen as a security guarantee for Kosovo rather than an obstacle.
“It should not be seen as a barrier but as a guarantee of security,” she said.
The president added that even during Donald Trump’s presidency, Kosovo received significant support from the United States.
“President Trump did not leave us alone; he strengthened us by inviting us to the Peace Board,” Osmani stated, according to RTV Dukagjini.
