Serbian delegation visits Interreg IPA projects in Hungary
A delegation from Serbia’s Ministry for European Integration, led by Nemanja Martinović, Acting Assistant Minister and Head of Serbia’s National Authority responsible for implementing the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Hungary–Serbia, together with representatives of the Programme’s Joint Secretariat Antenna in Subotica, visited two projects implemented under the Programme’s First Call for Proposals on August 5, 2026.
The first visit took place in Deszk, Hungary, where the lead beneficiary of the FolkReAct project, the Banat Serbian Cultural Association, presented the results of the project aimed at preserving, improving and promoting folk cultural heritage as a basis for developing sustainable tourism in the cross-border region, CE Report informs via the Ministry for European Integration of Serbia's official website.
The delegation was welcomed by the association’s president, Kristifor Brcan, who presented investments made in the reconstruction and renovation of the ethnographic house, courtyard and accompanying facilities. The new and refurbished facilities are now used for workshops, camps and traditional events such as the Ajvar Festival, contributing to the preservation of cultural identity and strengthening the local community. The visit once again demonstrated the strong and long-term impact European funding can have when invested in projects that address the genuine needs of local residents.
The second visit took place in Algyő, where the delegation visited the Best Wastewater project, focused on improving wastewater management and protecting the Tisza River. Accompanied by the project team, the delegation was shown a reconstructed anaerobic wastewater treatment basin, as well as a specialised vehicle for maintaining the sewage network and cleaning sewer systems, purchased as part of the project. These investments significantly improve the capacity of local utility services and help reduce the risk of environmental pollution through more efficient wastewater management.
The overall impression following the visits was that the projects are being implemented according to the planned schedule and within the projected capacities, with visible and measurable results on the ground.
The achieved results confirm that projects financed through the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Hungary–Serbia make a significant contribution to the Programme’s objectives, strengthening cross-border cooperation and promoting balanced and sustainable development in the border region.
