Biden, Obama dine separately at Washington’s famous café

A rare “alignment of power,” like a planetary conjunction, took place Wednesday night at Café Milano in Washington, the most famous Italian restaurant in the U.S. capital, CE Report quotes ANSA.

President Joe Biden sat at the coveted Table 100 with former Democratic senator Mark Pryor, warmly greeted by diners. Shortly after, Barack Obama arrived in a private room, also receiving applause — but the two did not greet each other.

The coldness is likely linked to Obama’s push for Biden to drop his reelection bid after his disastrous debate with Donald Trump.

Also dining separately were three former Trump administration officials — Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright — as well as Republican senator Dave McCormick and his wife Dina Powell. Secret Service agents filled the restaurant.

Founded in 1992 by Franco Nuschese, Café Milano has long been a bipartisan power hub, attracting presidents, royals, ministers, diplomats, celebrities, and journalists. Every U.S. president since Clinton has dined there — except Trump, though his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law were regulars.
