EU Commissioner Séjournais Visits Athens

Stéphane Séjournais, the European Commission's Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, is visiting Athens on Wednesday. During his visit, he will meet with Greece’s Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Séjournais will also travel to Agios Nikolaos in Boeotia to visit the Metlen Group’s facilities and meet its CEO, Evangelos Mytilineos.

Yesterday, the European Commission approved 47 strategic projects across 13 EU Member States aimed at extracting and processing critical raw materials, including rare earths vital for sectors like renewable energy and aerospace. Among them, a project in Greece, submitted by Metlen Energy and Metals and European Bauxites, focuses on bauxite, alumina, and gallium extraction, making it the only one of its kind in the EU.

“These projects are in the European and national interest,” Séjournais stated, emphasizing the importance of social acceptance for such initiatives.
