Education Minister Dan Perciun Responds to Opposition Motion on Ministry’s Policies

Moldova

Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun has addressed the second simple motion submitted by opposition parliamentary parties regarding the ministry’s policies. Perciun sees such initiatives as an opportunity to report on the Ministry of Education and Culture’s progress and engage in discussions on educational issues, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

“We discussed how to modernize higher education, including the record-breaking 2024 university admissions, which saw a nearly 15% increase compared to the previous year. This historic achievement is thanks to the 500 million lei invested in universities,” said Perciun.

The Minister emphasized the value of such motions for informing the public about the ministry’s work, highlighting efforts to attract teaching staff, improve salaries, and reduce bureaucracy in the education system.

“The opposition regularly submits simple motions to bring specific topics to the table. I appreciate the chance to report to the citizens about our work over the past year and a half. We welcome further opportunities for dialogue in parliament,” he added during an appearance on Moldova 1's "Pe Față" program.

On March 13, parliament rejected a motion submitted by 22 deputies from the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) against the Ministry’s policies, with only 18 MPs voting in favor. Perciun presented a detailed report on the Ministry's work and reaffirmed the need for ongoing educational reforms.

“We aim for a high-performance education system, focusing on speed and continuous reform,” Perciun concluded.

The motion, initiated by BCS lawmakers, cited concerns over the implementation of educational policies by the Ministry of Education and Research.
