The Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria welcomes the deepening of academic cooperation between Bulgarian universities and institutions in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

This was said by the source in the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria in an exclusive interview with CE Report.

The partnerships cover joint educational programmes, academic mobility, research projects, and participation in European University Alliances.

The cooperation contributes to the integration of universities, the development of double degrees, and fosters investment and technology transfer. Regions hosting companies such as Bosch, Siemens, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and BMW are particularly attractive due to strong industry–university ecosystems.

Bulgaria has universities with strong potential in engineering, IT, economics, and other fields, including Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” Technical University – Sofia, and Ruse University “Angel Kanchev.” Notable joint programmes include mechatronics and IT with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, business management with Coburg University of Applied Sciences, and South-East Europe history and archaeology projects with Universität Regensburg.

On Bulgaria’s national holiday, March 3, new cooperation agreements were signed between Ruse University and Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg, Veliko Tarnovo University and Universität Regensburg, and University of National and World Economy and Technische Hochschule Nürnberg, while ties with Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich were renewed and expanded.

Thirteen Bulgarian universities participate in the “European Universities” initiative, with ten partnering with German institutions. Partnerships with Baden-Württemberg universities include the University of National and World Economy with the University of Mannheim (ENGAGE.EU) and the Medical University – Sofia with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (INGENIUM).

During Bulgaria’s Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the Ministry highlighted the Bologna Process commitments and organized the “Bologna Process in the Danube Region – Rectors’ Policy Dialogue” in May 2026.
