Twenty educational institutions from Moldova’s Model Schools Network will be renovated and equipped with modern facilities, providing improved learning conditions for approximately 40,000 students. In addition, ten medical institutions will undergo modernization and energy-efficiency upgrades, benefiting more than one million patients and around 10,000 healthcare workers.

The projects will be implemented with financial support from the European Union and the European Investment Bank (EIB), CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Schools in Moldova" project has a total value of €51.5 million. The European Union will contribute a €3.5 million grant in addition to a €40 million loan provided by the European Investment Bank and an €8 million contribution from the Republic of Moldova, supported through the Growth Plan for Moldova.

Meanwhile, the "Energy Efficiency in Moldova" project will receive a €10 million grant from the European Union. The financing agreements for both projects were signed in Chisinau today.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu thanked the European Union and the EIB for their support, emphasizing that the investments will result in energy-efficient hospitals and modern schools.

"Every project begins with mutual trust. This is how we make the European dream a reality. We are discussing new modernization projects and will continue working for the benefit of our citizens," Munteanu said.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Iwona Piórko stated that the European Union continues to stand by Moldova and has mobilized unprecedented financial support.

"The modernization projects discussed today cover 20 schools, providing better conditions for around 40,000 children. We are also investing in healthcare and infrastructure. Energy efficiency remains a key priority for Moldova. Through grants totaling €10 million, we will help modernize ten public hospitals serving around one million patients and 10,000 healthcare professionals. Energy consumption will be reduced, and Moldova’s energy resilience will be strengthened. Today's project demonstrates that Moldova is preparing for its European future," she said.

EIB Vice-President Karl Nehammer noted that while the two projects differ in nature, they share a common goal: investing in people.

"For citizens, Europe becomes meaningful when it improves their daily lives. Europe is not built only in Brussels; it is built in every classroom where children learn, in hospitals where patients receive care, and in businesses that create jobs," he said.

Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun stated that the implementation of the school modernization project fulfills an objective established by the ministry in 2023 when the idea of creating the Model Schools Network was first launched.

"The institutions were selected in such a way that every district would have access to European-level educational conditions," Perciun explained.

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu said estimates indicate that modernization works at the ten hospitals will reduce energy costs by approximately 40%.

"These investments mean better-insulated buildings, modern heating and ventilation systems, efficient lighting, locally generated solar energy, and lower operating costs for hospitals. Most importantly, every euro saved on energy bills can be redirected toward better healthcare services, modern equipment, and improved conditions for patients and medical staff," Junghietu concluded.
