Prishtina removes Ukrainian flag after Zelenskyy's Kosovo remarks

The Ukrainian flag displayed in central Prishtina with the “Free Ukraine” sign was removed after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated a day ago that Kyiv would continue not to recognise Kosovo.

The sign had been displayed in solidarity with Ukraine following Russia’s invasion, CE Report quotes ATA.

Prishtina Mayor Përparim Rama said Kosovo’s statehood must be respected, while stressing that the capital would continue to support people facing war and persecution.

“No cause or political agenda can be built by belittling Kosovo’s statehood and the sacrifice of its people,” Rama said.

The flag was removed after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed during a visit to Belgrade that Ukraine’s policy on the non-recognition of Kosovo remains unchanged.

“Our position on non-recognition of Kosovo remains unchanged,” Zelenskyy said in Belgrade after meeting Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. He thanked Serbia for respecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including Crimea.

Kosovo has strongly supported Ukraine since Russia’s invasion and has backed Kyiv’s territorial integrity.
