Trump says Apple to make chips with Intel in US
U.S. President Donald Trump said that Apple has agreed to work with Intel to design and manufacture its chips in the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
"The technology the world relies on was invented in America. Foolish presidents failed to appreciate the value of our economy and allowed Taiwan and other countries to take away our semiconductor manufacturing. They forgot to protect our industries through tariffs."
Trump said that after returning to office, he recognized the need to bring the semiconductor industry back to the United States. While America designs chips, he argued that it must also manufacture them domestically, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
"That is why I decided to help Intel, because we must design and manufacture our chips right here in America. First, we helped Nvidia come back, and they agreed to produce their top-tier chips with Intel. Then Elon Musk agreed to build TerraFab, the world's largest chip factory, designed in cooperation with Intel's technology team. And finally, Apple has agreed to work with Intel to design and manufacture its chips in America," Trump stated.
Trump also recalled that his administration decided to support Intel in exchange for a 10% equity stake. He said that when the offer was made, the company was valued at around $100 billion, whereas its value has now risen to more than $600 billion.
