Moldovan athlete wins bronze at European U23 Wrestling Championships
Moldovan freestyle wrestler Alexandru Borș won the bronze medal at the European U23 Wrestling Championships, held in Zrenjanin, in the 92 kg weight category, MOLDPRES reports.
After a difficult start in his first bout against finalist Fatih Altunbas, Borș quickly recovered in the repechage rounds, defeating Grigorios Saridis from Greece with a score of 5–1, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
In the bronze medal match, the Moldovan athlete convincingly defeated Hungarian wrestler Krisztian Gabor Angyal 11–1, securing the medal for Moldova.
Alexandru Borș already has several medals in his career. In 2023, he became European Under-17 champion in freestyle wrestling, winning the 80 kg category at the continental competition held in Tirana.
Also in 2023, he captured the silver medal at the World U17 Wrestling Championships, held in Istanbul, again competing in the 80 kg division.
In 2024, Borș added another medal for Moldova — bronze at the European Under-20 Freestyle Wrestling Championships, held in Novi Sad.
The European Under-23 Wrestling Championships in Zrenjanin, Serbia, are taking place between March 9–15, 2026, bringing together athletes from across Europe in freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling across multiple weight categories.
At the same competition, Moldova also won a gold medal, captured by wrestler Alexandr Gaidarli.
