EU Parliament votes to ban meat terms for plant-based products
Burger, sausages, and cutlets: European Parliament says these terms shouldn’t be used for plant-based products.
The European Parliament in Strasbourg has approved—with 532 votes in favor, 78 against, and 25 abstentions—amendments to the regulation on the Common Organization of Agricultural Markets (CMO), CE Report quotes ANSA.
This includes an amendment proposed by EPP rapporteur Céline Imart, which bans the use of meat-related terms for plant-based products, such as “veggie burger” or “tofu sausage.”
A final ban will require an agreement with EU member states during negotiations on the proposal.
