European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia criticizes Serbian authorities over Mladić funeral

European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia Tonino Picula said that the participation of Serbian government representatives in the funeral of Hague convict Ratko Mladić “is not insignificant,” as it will show the extent to which the authorities in Belgrade identify with his crimes.

In a post on X, he stressed that “toxic attacks on the Hague tribunal’s verdict confirm the already well-known positions of the regime in Belgrade that Mladić was an innocent victim of the international criminal justice system,” CE Report quotes FENA.

Picula emphasized that the European Union must respond appropriately to such statements, recalling the lasting consequences of the wars of the 1990s.

“The EU’s response must be adequate, because the consequences of the Greater Serbian aggression against the Republic of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo in the 1990s have still not been overcome,” Picula said.
