Romania Eyes Black Sea Wind Farms

Energy

The Romanian Ministry of Energy has launched a public call for expressions of interest to develop a study identifying and delimiting offshore areas in the Black Sea for future wind farm concessions, CE Report quotes Agerpres

The goal is to support at least 3 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035, aligning with Romania’s EU commitments. The study will analyze wind potential, marine geotechnics, environmental impact, grid connection options, and compatibility with existing maritime activities.

Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja emphasized the Black Sea’s untapped strategic value and its role in strengthening Romania’s energy security. The study, backed by the World Bank and European Commission, will guide strategic decisions and provide investors with a clear, science-based framework.

Interested parties must submit proposals by June 10, 2025.
