Italy's industry faces crisis, Confindustria warns

Energy

Confindustria said that Italian industry was in trouble and that energy price hikes were pushing inflation higher, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The industrial employers group said there had been a slow restart for the economy: at the beginning of 2025, and support for the economy should come from the continuation of rate cuts even if inflation is rising, fueled by increases in gas and electricity prices.

"Industry is in crisis and services are not pulling much," said the Congiuntura flash report of Confindustria which underlines how general industry is "in trouble" with the automotive sector recording a "significant" fall in production.

The prospects - underlines the Association's Study Center - are weighed down by uncertainty over possible US duties, "which risks slowing down trade and investments".

Industry is "in trouble", it says, "production fell in December (-3.1%) after the marginal recovery in November: -1.1% in the 4th quarter, the 7th consecutive decline: the automotive sector marks a -36.6% on December 2023".
