Italy Grants €14M to Moldova

Moldova

Italy has pledged €14 million in new financial support to Moldova via the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aiming to strengthen social protection and energy resilience. The agreement, signed today, will fund renovations of social service centers, extend the “Help at Meter” compensation program for the cold season, and expand smart metering in the energy sector, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Moldova’s Labor Minister Alexei Buzu thanked Italy for its ongoing assistance, calling it vital for sustaining the country’s complex cold-season compensation efforts.

This latest funding complements previous Italian contributions totaling €20 million in 2023 and 2025. Italian Ambassador Lorenzo Tomassoni highlighted the support as part of Italy’s commitment to Moldova’s European integration and reform agenda.

Among the outcomes, two regional centers will be modernized into energy-efficient, accessible one-stop service hubs, and €5 million will support the 2024–2025 heating season through the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund.
