Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC has started an enforcement process under an arbitration award against Russia’s Gazprom, totaling USD 1.37 billion.

The relevant statement was made by Naftogaz Group’s press service, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

“Naftogaz Group has formally requested payment from Russia’s Gazprom to recover USD 1.37 billion under the final award of international arbitration in Zurich, received by the company on June 20, 2025. The amount includes the principal debt for gas transit services under the 2019 agreement, as well as penalties and full compensation for legal expenses incurred by Naftogaz,” the report states.

As noted by the company, if Gazprom fails to comply voluntarily, Naftogaz will initiate asset recovery measures targeting the Russian company’s holdings abroad.

Additionally, Naftogaz continues to pursue enforcement of a separate USD 5 billion arbitration award against the Russian Federation for the illegal expropriation of its assets in Crimea in 2014. This process is underway at different stages in 10 jurisdictions.

In particular, the first results have been achieved in Finland and France, with Russian assets being seized. In other countries, relevant efforts are ongoing. For legal strategy reasons, further details are not to be disclosed at the moment.

A reminder that an international arbitration tribunal in Switzerland ordered Gazprom PJSC to pay USD 1.37 billion to Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC.
