Moldova boosts fuel imports amid energy alert
Approximately 2,200 tons of gasoline and 2,150 tons of diesel fuel were imported into Moldova on Monday, March 16, through several entry points, amid an ongoing state of alert in the energy sector caused by developments in the Middle East, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, the deliveries were made via the Giurgiulești International Free Port, as well as by road and rail through the customs points of Leușeni and Ungheni.
Following these imports, available reserves are sufficient for:
about 21 days of gasoline consumption
around 16 days of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
over 9 days of diesel consumption
Authorities said these measures are part of efforts to ensure energy security, given increased risks in international energy markets.
At the same time, consumers are urged to use fuel responsibly and avoid unnecessary purchases to prevent additional pressure on existing reserves.
The situation in the energy sector is being influenced by geopolitical developments in the Middle East, a key region for global energy supply, which may lead to volatility in fuel markets.
The Ministry of Energy continues to monitor the situation and stated it will intervene if necessary to maintain supply stability.
The government introduced a state of alert in the energy sector on March 4 for 60 days, as a preventive measure aimed at protecting domestic consumption and maintaining the stability of the energy system.
