Romania's Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan visited the cogeneration plant near the Petromidia refinery on Tuesday, highlighting its strategic importance as the largest project by the Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund (FIEKR), CE Report quotes Agerpres

Ivan emphasized that the $164 million investment will meet the full electricity and steam needs of the Petromidia refinery while supporting regional energy system stability. “This is likely the most important energy investment in Dobrogea and signals Romania’s commitment to expanding national energy capacity,” he stated.

The plant, developed in partnership with Kazakhstan under a 2013 agreement, is in its final testing and certification phase. It is expected to become operational by the end of August under Rompetrol Energy.

The event was attended by Kazakh Ambassador Yerlik Ali, Honorary Consul Corina Martin, local officials, and representatives from KazMunayGas and KMG International – Rompetrol.
