Brigitte Bardot’s personal belongings go up for auction
From Repetto ballet flats and diamond rings to her copy of the Kama Sutra, nearly 300 lots featuring the personal belongings of the late actress Brigitte Bardot are on display at the Drouot auction house in central Paris.
The proceeds will go to her charitable foundation for animals, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The BBC reports that the items come from Bardot’s two residences in Saint-Tropez and her Paris apartment; parts of these homes have been recreated inside the exhibition space.
“Every object being sold bears the trace of a meeting, an involvement, a moment of happiness, a stage in her life. They tell the story of the woman, as well as that of the legend,” said Frank Guillou, her longtime secretary.
In addition to furniture, clothing and religious-themed statues, the sale features kitchen utensils, Le Creuset cookware and lighters. Other highlights include the manual typewriter she used for correspondence and her autobiography, jewelry and classical guitars. Her Peugeot bicycle and two pairs of Repetto leather ballet flats will also be auctioned.
The sale also includes a large selection of portraits of the star, some of them erotic in nature.
“Brigitte said she did not want to spend the day looking at her own face; that is why she did not keep them hanging on the walls, although she kept them: she treasured them because she knew the artists or because those images had a particular meaning for her. They were all gifts,” Guillou explained.
The typewriter Bardot used to write her autobiography and her Guerlain perfume will also be auctioned.
Most of the lots have a starting price of less than 100 euros ($117), but bids are expected to push the prices significantly higher.
