Bulgaria Registers Eighth Helicopter Landing Site for Emergency Medical Services:

The General Directorate "Civil Aviation Administration" has registered the eighth helicopter landing site for emergency medical air services in Bulgaria, located near the "Zheleznitsa" Tunnel on the Struma Motorway. The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced this development through its press center.

The new facility enables rapid evacuation of injured individuals from road accidents or other emergencies in the tunnel area and the surrounding region. According to "Bulgaria Heli Med Service" EAD, the helicopter can reach the "Zheleznitsa" tunnel from Sofia within 30 minutes. Previously, Bulgaria had three hospital helicopter landing sites in Sofia and one each in Varna, Panagyurishte, Ruse, and Veliko Tarnovo. This is the first helicopter landing site on a Bulgarian motorway.

The project, part of the construction of "Struma Motorway - Lot 3.1, Lot 3.3, and Zheleznitsa Tunnel," is financed by the Operational Program "Transport and Transport Infrastructure" and commissioned by the Road Infrastructure Agency. In March, "Bulgaria Heli Med Service" EAD received certification to perform emergency medical air services. Training for pilots of a second helicopter is ongoing in Italy, and preparations are being made for a second operational base at Borshen Airport in Sliven.
