Ivan Toney charged over alleged nightclub assault

England national team striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm after allegedly headbutting a fan who was trying to take a photo with him at a nightclub in London's Soho district.

The 30-year-old footballer was formally charged last Thursday with causing actual bodily harm following an incident that occurred on December 6 last year at the 100 Wardour Street nightclub in London, according to The Daily Mail.

Toney, who was born in Northampton and currently plays for Al-Ahli, is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 24, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

According to reports, the former Brentford striker, who joined Al-Ahli for £40 million in 2024, was approached by a fan who wanted to take a selfie with him.

A witness said Toney was walking past a table with a group of young people when one of them recognized him and attempted to grab him around the neck to take a photo.

"He told him several times: 'Get away from me, get away from me,'" the witness said.

According to the witness, Toney was wearing an expensive watch and may have believed that someone was attempting to steal it.

After the incident, the footballer was arrested on suspicion of headbutting the fan.

Through his spokesperson, Toney said he acknowledges the existence of the charge but was surprised by it and expects to have the opportunity to clear his name in court.

Since his arrest last year, Toney has remained on unconditional bail. He was also granted a visa to enter the United States and was allowed to travel for the World Cup in June, where he played in two matches for England.
