Bulgarian athletes receive Olympic solidarity support
Sixteen young athletes representing 12 Bulgarian sports federations will receive scholarships to support training camps under the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity programme, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) said on Wednesday.
The BOC applied for the funding, which amounts to USD 25,000 and will be used to finance training camps in Bulgaria and abroad, as well as preparations ahead of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled for October 31 to November 13, CE Report quotes BTA.
The scholarships will support the preparation of 16 young athletes, seven female and nine male, competing in 12 sports: athletics (three athletes); badminton and swimming (two each); and wushu, cycling, artistic gymnastics, taekwondo, archery, fencing, breaking, beach wrestling and judo.
BOC President Vesela Lecheva said that the organization’s goal is to ensure that IOC programmes fully benefit Bulgarian athletes, coaches and sports specialists. "To achieve this, we have strengthened the team responsible for projects and programmes so that we can participate effectively and take full advantage of all the opportunities offered by the Olympic Solidarity programme to members of the Olympic Movement," Lecheva said.
Olympic Solidarity is an IOC initiative aimed at developing sport by providing financial and technical assistance to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) worldwide. It offers a wide range of programmes focused primarily on athlete development, as well as the education and training of coaches and sports administrators, with the goal of promoting Olympic values.
