Latvia practices military mobilization procedures in four cities

On Saturday, August 8, the Latvian National Armed Forces will deploy mobilization centers in Riga, Kuldīga, Valmiera, and Alūksne to practice the procedure for calling up citizens in the event of a crisis.

LSM stated this in an article, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

The military said the purpose of deploying the mobilization centers is to “to train and improve the procedure for calling up and conscripting Latvian citizens into the armed forces in a crisis situation.”

Citizens of Latvia who have applied for voluntary reservist training will arrive at the mobilization centers. From there, they will be taken to the Infantry School in Alūksne. The course, during which 114 reservists will learn basic military skills, will run from August 8 to August 29.

At the Infantry School in Alūksne, reservists will acquire basic military skills at both the individual and collective training levels, studying various disciplines. These include legal regulations, weapons training, combat shooting, communications, topography, navigation, combat skills in field conditions, and advanced first aid. Training will be conducted in person in classrooms, at the range, and in field conditions in the form of lectures and practical field exercises, and will also include theoretical and practical examinations.

After successfully completing the course, reservists will take the military oath, receive a reservist ID card, a mobilization order, and be enlisted in the reserve.

Reservists in Latvia refresh their military skills every four years during regular training exercises.

Women and men aged 18 to 60 who are Latvian citizens, have at least a primary education, speak the state language at an intermediate level, have no criminal record, and are in good health can apply for reservist training.

Separately, on Friday, August 7, practical exercises will be held in Riga, during which the capital’s municipality together with partners will build engineering structures to restrict mobility, intended to slow the advance of enemy forces in an urban environment. The exercises are designed to test and improve the ability of the involved services to act in a coordinated manner in the event of a threat to the state, the municipality said.
