Türkiye expands global trade network to reach new markets

Türkiye is stepping up its trade diplomacy abroad in an effort to diversify its markets in global trade and achieve new export records, local media reported.

According to TRT Haber, as part of the programme known as the Distant Countries Strategy, Türkiye now has 235 trade attachés and trade representatives in 115 countries, a record number achieved in recent years, CE Report quotes BTA.

The country also has 170 trade centres abroad, three of which have permanent representative offices.

Europe, traditionally Türkiye's largest trading partner, accounts for more than 16% of its trade representation network, with 38 representatives in 16 countries and 26 trade centres across Europe employing a total of 80 staff.

In Bulgaria, Türkiye maintains a trade office at its embassy, headed by a trade counsellor and supported by assistants.

Trade offices are also present in countries in Southern Africa, Central Asia and the South Caucasus, North and South America, North Africa and Australia.

An important part of Türkiye's trade strategy is its outreach to developing countries and distant markets, particularly G20 countries, which account for approximately 80% of the global economy and 75% of world trade, the report said. These markets play a key role in helping Turkish exporters integrate into international supply and distribution chains and overcome barriers in local markets, the report said.
