Ljubljana Airport adds new routes for summer season
Ljubljana Airport will offer passengers a choice of scheduled flights to 30 destinations this summer season in what the operator Fraport Slovenija expects to be one of the strongest seasons in recent years.
Running from 29 March until the end of October, the new season brings additional flights on many existing routes, a wide selection of charter flights to popular holiday destinations, and two new routes.
The flights will be operated by 24 airlines, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.
Starting from 1 April, British low-cost carrier EasyJet will add flights to the Scottish capital of Edinburgh to its services to London and Manchester.
Two months later, Hungarian Wizz Air will introduce a service to the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica on top of its existing flights to Skopje, North Macedonia.
Expanded flight schedule
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which operates daily flights between Ljubljana and Amsterdam, and SWISS, which flies to Zurich, are introducing morning departures and evening return flights.
Spain's Iberia will expand its seasonal service to Madrid. Flights will start in June and will operate twice weekly until the end of September.
Airbaltic has announced more frequent flights to Riga, Aegean Airlines will fly more often to Athens, Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, British Airways to London Heathrow and Wizz Air to Skopje.
The Lufthansa group will increase flight capacities on routes to Frankfurt and Munich.
After taking a break for the winter, Finnair will resume flights to Helsinki and Transavia to Paris Orly.
Airbaltic has announced it will introduce flights to the Tenerife island in the Canary Islands, with the first one scheduled for 30 October. The airline already operates a route to Las Palmas on the Gran Canaria island.
Improved connectivity
"The expanded summer schedule reflects the continued strengthening of Ljubljana Airport's connectivity and underscores our airline partners' trust in the Slovenian market," Fraport Slovenija managing director Jürgen Deischl said.
The airport served almost 1.6 million passengers in 2025, 11% more than the year before. Fraport expects stable growth of passenger numbers to continue this year.
Last year, a new runway was completed and part of an existing one was renovated, improving the airport's efficiency and providing capabilities for wide-body aircraft.
This year, the operator will continue the modernisation of the main tarmac. By autumn, around 40,000 m2 of the tarmac will be renovated. The lighting will be upgraded, infrastructure for supplying aircraft with electricity will be installed, aircraft parking positions will be reconfigured, and the necessary infrastructure for the project of a digital tarmac will be set up.
