The protected mountain areas in Albania's Shkodra region are among the reference points for adventure and nature tourism, attracting local and foreign visitors who are looking for authentic experiences in the heart of the mountains.

The mountain areas attract tourists who enjoy the beauties they offer under the blanket of snow in early January, CE Report quotes ATA.

Director of the Protected Areas Administration Agim Dardha told ATA today that “Thethi, Boga, Vermoshi, Lëpusha, Razma are among the most important destinations for adventure tourism, where the wild nature and the mountainous terrain create ideal conditions for challenging and authentic experiences”.

“Being under the snowfall in recent days, these areas are being preferred by those passionate about skiing on natural slopes and walking in the snow”, said Dardha.

Dardha appealed to all the local and foreign visitors to be accompanied by local guides when exploring the trails in the Alps, in order to avoid incidents due to snow.

But even during last year, this park was one of the most visited by local and foreign tourists in the course of the 12 months of the year.

Dardha said that the number of tourists visiting the protected areas in recent years has been following an increasing trend.

“Last year, we managed to exceed 1 million visitors in the protected areas of Shkodra region such as Velipoja, the Buna River, Lake Shkodra, the Alpine National Park that includes Theth, Vermosh, Lëpusha, Razma and Boga. Meanwhile, the most visited destination is the Shala River.”

“Specifically, from January to the end of December, there were 1,298,200 visitors, of which 785,820 were local and 512,380 were foreign to the protected areas of the region,” said Dardha.

Shkodra, with its large area of protected areas, constitutes one of the most important potentials of the country in terms of nature, cultural and historical tourism.
