Ryanair celebrates two million passengers at Croatia's Dubrovnik base
Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has carried two million passengers through its Dubrovnik base since launching operations at the airport in 2019, coinciding with the airline’s 20th anniversary of operating in Croatia, the company announced.
“Ryanair began operating flights to and from Croatia in 2006, introducing a route between Pula and London Stansted Airport. Since then, it has transformed the Croatian aviation market by introducing affordable competition to the long-standing national carrier Croatia Airlines, supporting the recovery of air traffic after the pandemic and providing affordable, frequent connections to the capital and coastal destinations,” the company said in a statement.
Ryanair currently operates at seven airports in Croatia, connecting them with more than 20 countries and offering residents and visitors a choice of low fares while supporting inbound tourism throughout the year, CE Report quotes HINA.
The airline said it had invested more than $900 million in Croatia and established major bases at the airports in Zagreb, Zadar and Dubrovnik. It also operates at regional airports in Osijek, Pula, Rijeka and Split.
According to the company, its operations support more than 3,500 jobs in the country, including more than 270 highly skilled and well-paid positions for pilots and cabin crew.
This winter, Ryanair operates more than 170 weekly flights on 21 routes to and from Croatia, including a new Zagreb–Warsaw route. The airline connects Croatia with numerous European tourism markets, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland.
“Twenty years have passed since Ryanair launched its first route in Croatia, and today we are proud to celebrate two major milestones: 20 years of transforming air travel in Croatia and our two-millionth passenger at our Dubrovnik base. In addition to supporting tourism, our operations have contributed to Croatia’s economic development, and we remain committed to further growth,” Ryanair Director of Communications Jade Kirwan said.
To mark the two-million-passenger milestone, Ryanair also shared a statement from Dubrovnik Airport Director Viktor Šober, who said the airline was an important partner in strengthening Dubrovnik’s air connectivity and improving the destination’s accessibility in European markets. He expressed confidence that the successful results would continue.
