Aegean is about to start new flights to India, expanding its network beyond Europe and the Middle East.

From March 2026, the largest airline in Greece is ready to enter a travel market with great momentum, as this country is the most populous on the planet with 1.5 billion inhabitants, of which 75 million have very strong incomes and are potential travelers, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

Aegean announced a strategic partnership with IndiGo, India's largest airline, signing a memorandum that paves the way for code-sharing flights. This move marks the first major opening of the Greek airline to a market with great potential, such as India.

However, the full exploitation of the codeshare agreement between the two companies requires that visa issues be resolved in a timely manner, which today, as pointed out during the presentation of the cooperation, the president of the Greek company, Eftychis Vassilakis, require time-consuming and complicated procedures for Indian citizens who want to visit the country.

"The visa issue is crucial - the procedures are slow and the staff is insufficient. If staff and procedural issues are not resolved, the project will encounter difficulties and no one will choose to travel," he said.

The Greek government has already been informed and has committed to strengthening diplomatic services and simplifying visa procedures, however, time is pressing.

"The visa is what will determine the success or failure of the venture," said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo.
