Ljubljana Airport expands winter network with new routes
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport will offer 22 direct destinations operated by 18 airlines under its winter flight schedule, which started on 26 October, one more than last winter.
The new timetable follows a good summer for the country's main aviation hub, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.
The winter schedule introduces two new destinations. AirBaltic added Tenerife to its existing Canary Islands operations last week, while EasyJet is launching flights to London Luton on 27 October. The new route marks the British budget carrier's fourth destination from Ljubljana, joining Gatwick, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
Overall, Ljubljana will have a total of 138,300 seats on scheduled services in November, the first full month of the winter schedule, up by a tenth over the year before, according to Ex-Yu Aviation, a portal specialising in regional aviation news.
Fraport Slovenija, the airport's operator, says that regular flights to major European transit hubs, including Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, and Istanbul, will continue to ensure vital global connectivity throughout the colder months.
The transition to the winter schedule follows a highly successful summer season. August yielded an all-time monthly record of 222,958 passengers, eclipsing the previous high set in August 2019.
The upward trend continued through September, driving the total passenger count for the first nine months of the year to 1.42 million, a 15.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
Further network expansion has already been confirmed for the summer 2027 season. The most significant development will be the arrival of United Airlines, which plans to launch direct flights between Ljubljana and New York's Newark Liberty International Airport in May 2027.
Additionally, EasyJet will introduce a service to Berlin, while TUI will make its debut in Slovenia with flights to Brussels and Düsseldorf.
