Croatia finalizes scholarship list after surge in applications

Tech & Science

Nearly 3,500 applications were submitted for 2,000 scholarships for students from Croatian communities abroad in the 2025/2026 academic year, the Central State Office for Croats Abroad said.

A total of 3,464 applications were received, of which 3,054 met the formal criteria, and a proposed ranking list includes 2,007 scholarship recipients, CE Report quotes HINA.

Each scholarship is paid over 10 months at €175 per month, amounting to €1,750 per student, with Croatia allocating just over €3.5 million in total.

The call, launched in December 2025, initially envisaged 2,000 scholarships: 300 for study in Croatia, 1,500 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 30 in Montenegro, five in Kosovo, 15 in North Macedonia and 150 in Serbia.

Of the 300 scholarships for study in Croatia, 200 were intended for Croatian students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 60 for students belonging to the Croatian national minority and 40 for students from the Croatian diaspora.

As fewer applicants applied than the approved number of scholarships in some categories, the final figures differ slightly. Details of the allocation are available on the Office’s website.
