Spotify expands audiobook availability worldwide

Spotify is going beyond music, expanding the availability of audiobooks around the world.

Starting today and by the end of the year, access will expand from the current 22 markets to more than 180 countries, CE Report quotes ANSA.

“This extraordinary expansion will allow more than 750 million people worldwide to discover, stream or purchase audiobooks on Spotify,” the company explains. “The platform’s growth comes with a catalog of more than 350,000 titles, including major new releases in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and many other languages, covering more than 120 languages in total.”

The move follows audiobook listening trends on the platform.

Between September 2025 and September 2026, monthly audiobook listeners on Spotify “grew by nearly 40% year over year, while total listening hours increased by more than 30%.”

Italian users will have access to more than 350,000 titles overall, including a dedicated catalog of more than 14,000 works in Italian, ranging from bestsellers to niche productions and literary classics.

“This milestone,” Spotify adds, “was made possible through collaborations with some of the leading players in Italy’s publishing industry, including Gruppo Mondadori, Giunti Editore, Emons Audio, il Narratore audiolibri, Fazi Editore, L’Orma editore, Marcos y Marcos, Area51 Publishing and Giuntina—a network that is set to expand further.”

The service will be available through several options: Audiobooks Premium, a package offering 12 hours of listening per month included with an eligible Spotify Premium subscription; Audiobooks+, an add-on subscription for users who want additional listening hours beyond the basic plan; and, finally, the option to purchase individual titles directly.
