SpaceX seeks $40 billion to buy Nvidia chips

Tech & Science

SpaceX is seeking to raise around $40 billion to finance the purchase of Nvidia chips, in a deal reportedly led by Apollo Global Management, according to the Financial Times.

The potential financing would be one of the latest major investments aimed at securing the computing power needed for the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence. The deal is reportedly still under discussion and could change before being finalized, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The planned funding highlights SpaceX’s growing interest in artificial intelligence and large-scale computing infrastructure. The company, founded and led by Elon Musk, has been expanding beyond its traditional space business and satellite internet operations, investing in technologies that require significant amounts of computing power.

Nvidia has become a key supplier to the AI industry, with its high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) widely used to train and operate advanced AI models. Demand for the company’s chips has surged as technology firms and infrastructure providers race to build increasingly powerful AI data centers.

Apollo Global Management, meanwhile, has become increasingly active in financing the infrastructure behind the AI boom. Large financial institutions are providing capital for data centers, chips and other equipment as technology companies seek to expand their computing capacity.

If completed, SpaceX’s planned $40 billion financing would underline the enormous scale of investment currently flowing into AI infrastructure. The Financial Times described the potential agreement as another sign of the growing demand for chips and other technologies needed to support the global expansion of artificial intelligence.

For SpaceX, the move would represent a significant commitment to computing infrastructure and could support the company’s broader ambitions in AI and related technologies.
