Elon Musk announces SpaceXAI rebrand
US billionaire Elon Musk is set to rename his technology company SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI, in line with US President Donald Trump’s efforts to promote the term “super intelligence” for artificial intelligence.
SpaceXAI was recently created through the merger of xAI and SpaceX, CE Report quotes STA.
Musk announced the company’s renaming on Sunday through his X platform. Trump has been pushing for weeks for the term “super intelligence” to be adopted for artificial intelligence. He believes that the existing name makes the technology sound artificial or fake.
Musk was one of Trump’s closest allies during the first months of the US president’s second term. The two later fell out, partly over tax legislation, but have since largely repaired their relationship.
Against the backdrop of growing warnings about the risks posed by artificial intelligence, Trump met with leading representatives of the technology industry at the White House last week. On that occasion, he presented them with his optimistic vision for the development of artificial intelligence, which he believes could usher the United States into a new golden age.
Some industry leaders have called for a slowdown in the development of the most advanced systems until additional safety mechanisms are put in place. Others argue that such measures could hamper US technological development and give China an advantage.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed calls for stricter oversight as excessive. At the recent UN General Assembly, he said the United States rejects global efforts to regulate artificial intelligence. In early September, he also announced plans to establish a federal AI task force, known as AI Force, although its powers have yet to be clearly defined.
