Egypt prepares for major archaeological event
The Tutankhamun Hall, the most crowded with visitors at the old Egyptian Museum in Cairo, will officially close on October 20 to allow the transfer of the collection to the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza, which will be grandly inaugurated after years of delays on November 1, CE Report quotes ANSA.
According to the Egyptian press, at the GEM, over 5,000 treasures will be displayed together for the first time in a dedicated hall—an exceptional event in the history of archaeology and museums worldwide.
The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mohamed Ismail, confirmed that the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square will continue to welcome visitors during its usual hours.
The closure will be limited to the Tutankhamun Hall to allow the final packing and transport of the remaining artifacts.
