Spanish driver Alex Palou, the four-time IndyCar champion, attended a presentation event at the White House on Monday for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, which will take place in Washington in August. During the event, he presented U.S. President Donald Trump with a personalized racing helmet, EFE reports.

Palou was joined by fellow drivers David Malukas and Felix Rosenqvist. On behalf of the IndyCar championship, they gifted Trump a helmet featuring the colors of the American flag, the president's full name, and a silhouette of the White House, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

"I've seen all three of you doing very well lately. Better than me. I don't want to go 250 miles per hour with only a few inches between my car and another one. But what you've done in the last few races is incredible," Trump said during a brief ceremony outside the West Wing of the White House.

The president then watched a symbolic pit stop demonstration, during which Team Penske mechanics performed a rapid tire change.

Washington will host the free Freedom 250 Grand Prix on August 22-23. The race is part of the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and is included in the IndyCar Series calendar.

The circuit features seven turns and has a total length of approximately 2.74 kilometers. The race will take place near some of Washington's most iconic landmarks, including the National Mall.

Trump compared the significance of the event to the UFC mixed martial arts event held at the White House on June 14, when he celebrated his 80th birthday.

Palou, who drives for Chip Ganassi Racing and won the IndyCar Series titles in 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025, currently leads the championship standings with 404 points, holding a 56-point advantage over his closest rival, American Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global.
