Haaland says England are clear favorites
Erling Haaland has shifted the pressure onto England ahead of Norway's World Cup quarterfinal clash with the Three Lions, describing the English side as the clear favorite.
The Manchester City striker has been one of Norway's standout players at the tournament, scoring seven goals in four matches and helping his country reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in 28 years, CE Report quotes ANSA.
In the Round of 16, Haaland scored twice in Norway's victory over Brazil, sending his team into the last eight.
"It's a special match. For me, it's even more special because I play in England and was born in England. I'll also be facing my teammates. It will be an exciting and enjoyable game," Haaland said.
Despite Norway's impressive run, the 25-year-old believes the greater pressure is on England, who were considered one of the tournament favorites before it began.
"I think there are a few clear favorites, and England are one of them. I think all the pressure should be on the English," he said.
Norway have been one of the surprises of this World Cup, and Haaland admitted he did not expect the team to reach this stage.
"I didn't expect it, to be honest. Reaching the World Cup quarterfinals with Norway is something very special. Beating Brazil and then facing England at a World Cup is extraordinary," he added.
In addition to his performances on the pitch, Haaland has attracted significant attention in the United States for his personality off the field, becoming one of the tournament's most popular figures among American fans.
