Sinner beats Djokovic to reach Wimbledon final
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who has family roots in Zvečan, Kosovo, will not play in the final of Wimbledon after losing to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
Sinner defeated Djokovic in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
The Italian delivered a dominant performance from start to finish, ending Djokovic's hopes of winning a record 25th Grand Slam title. Djokovic is a seven-time Wimbledon champion, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
"I knew I had to raise my level today, and I did," Sinner said after the match.
For the 39-year-old Serbian, the defeat means another missed opportunity to extend his Grand Slam record. Despite the loss, Djokovic said he has no plans to retire from Wimbledon.
"I'd like to come back at least one more time," he said. "When I'm healthy, I still believe I can compete with the top five players in the world and play at the highest level."
In Sunday's final, Sinner will face Germany's Alexander Zverev, who booked his place in the championship match after defeating Britain's Arthur Fery 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-4.
For Zverev, it will be another chance to win a major title, just one month after his triumph at Roland Garros in Paris.
"Wimbledon has always been the Grand Slam where I've struggled the most, and now I'm in the final. There's only one match left, and that's where my full focus is," Zverev said.
